What Is The Most Realistic Way To Record Snare Drums?

I am not a recording engineer, but these are my thoughts. I think realistic could mean two things when talking about the snare drum sound. What we hear as a drummer sitting behind the snare drum OR what someone hears sitting in front of the snare. No manipulation of sound. No mics. Just the raw sound of the snare. So, what is the best way to record the snare drum for each of these two cases?

I am not suggesting that the recording should match 100% to what we hear with our ears, but what I am asking is to find out if there is a way to get as close as possible to what we hear. These YouTube clips of snare drums are better than nothing, but some or many of them are manipulated.

Do you have a desktop and a desk microphone?
And a room thats not too dry? Sorta kinda 'echoey?
I have all that and my snare when played back sounds like it sounds in that room in person
