Here’s a video of Chad Wackerman playing them in a manner more apropos to the age bracket/listening tastes of this forum. Lo and behold, they sound just like a good set of drums. Wackerman makes them sound amazing, but that’s more a function of him than the drums, methinks.
Joe, have you ever (beyond the bad hair and wood whisperer jive) listened to a long form interview with either Good or Lombardi? One thing I’ve been able to ascertain is that they both love coming up with new stuff, regardless of the “need”. I’ll look for the video where I distinctly remember Good saying his favorite thing to do is try new material for shells. I also recall a video with Lombardi laughing at himself for inventing something that didn’t need to be invented. Will look for those today.
Of course they’re reinventing the wheel, and of course they’ll market it as being the greatest thing ever made. That’s what marketing is for, and DW are great marketers. They haven’t run out of ideas - as long as Good & Lombardi still walk through the factory doors they will actively be coming up with some new, mostly unnecessary shell and hardware “innovations”. Because they’re geeks, just like you and I are geeks, and also because they can. That’s their thing, just like legacy is Gretsch and Ludwig’s thing.
Enjoy this video for what it is. Just another good set of drums played by a great player.
i believe you meantjust like legacy is
Gretsch's thing
"2 outta three ain't bad"You’re right, the Brooklyns are a great tribute to the Ludwig legacy.![]()
The closest thing I can think of is the pearl chrome over wood?
It will be interesting to see how the metal vs wood ply marry after years in that relationship. Will they still bond seamlessly or is separation inevitable? I'm not convinced that the union of two dissimilar plies is a sonic gain. But then again, I'm not privy to what the DW R&D guys know, other than DW marketing markets.
It sounds like an Oak kit to me. More focus and projection, and maybe a little less resonance.
I thought they were very nice. The snare was especially nice.
