Pretty sure one of those containers has the tires for my fairway mowers in it that I've been waiting a month to receive. Oh well. Guess maybe a lot of these companies shouldn't have outsourced simply in the name of greed. Could've made it in the US and just had a 1000% margin instead of 1500%.

Outsourcing has killed so much productivity here, all in the endless pursuit of the almighty dollar at the expense of everyone. Much of the plywood at the local HD is now imported from China, I suppose because we don't have enough trees here? lol.

They saved the tree to save the habitat for the Owl and save the ecosystem. Now, the lumber comes from exploited labour, in a communist country, (with no concerns for the environment so f that Chinese Owl) and is shipped 1000s of miles across the ocean, polluting the water and air as it goes, arrives in a port, who's water is polluted with invasive species from the ballast tank, is loaded on a truck/train and shipped to its final big box store, polluting the air on its way, so HD saved you $.08/sheet and the Owl still has a home in the now developed suburbs.
Makes perfect sense.

And to top it off, where I live, the policy is to clear the trees, make a huge pile out of them, and burn it.

I just ordered 10 pairs of sticks from Sweetwater to keep in stock for a long time.
You never know!
Some return to normalcy, indeed!
Let’s see how long it takes for your order to arrive :sneaky:

This all sounds right except I don’t save $0.08/sheet; with supply chain issues, it actually costs 20-30% more than domestic plywood used to. Everything is so backwards today

The container shipping delays from the ports in this country were compounded by the Godawful operating model known as PSR (Precision Sceduled Railroading) that the major Class 1 railroads inflicted upon themselves, its workforce, and their customers in an attempt to appease Wall Street.
Massive layoff's occured while mainlines essentially became parking lots for freight trains instead of flowing efficiently.

Thanks for posting this, I for one was oblivious to the rail situation. I live 1/4 mile from one of the busiest CSX lines in GA within earshot of the horns and seems like the rail activity has diminished in recent years. But I don’t really pay it any attention except when a conductor sits on the horn way too long, or when two trains going in opposite meet near the crossing and the two conductors compete to see which one can be more annoying.

I read yesterday that the Port at Savannah has a plan to expand their rail terminal as well as their container storage. They have the problem of too many containers and nowhere to put them and not enough means of transit to get them out of the terminal.

Yeah and it seems to link directly to the railroad clusterf…k. This is what happens when the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing, or rather when some “great idea” about improving efficiency is totally whacked.

Hang on to your hats folks! Today our president is going make an announcement on how he is going to fix the global supply chain issue.

From Reuters:

"Biden will meet at 1:45 p.m. (1745 GMT) at the White House with executives from the two ports as well as from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, the Teamsters, the AFL-CIO, Wal-Mart, FedEx, UPS, Target, the National Retail Federation, the American Trucking Association, the Pacific Maritime Association, and more.

He will speak on these efforts at 2:20 p.m. (1820 GMT)."

Article here:

So between 1:45 and 2:20 all the shipping problems will be solved? That's not even enough time to sniff everyone's hair.

2 ports. I could have sworn there were more than 2 ports in the US. Guess I was mistaken. /S
