Try to remember this in the future... (attitude tips from Henry Rollins)

I was on a gig just this last weekend where I found out that one guy pretty much assembly the stage himself the night before which kept him there in the wee hours of the morning. This was a concert stage pieced together in squares and on the legs. All of the pieces are fastened together during assembly. He even put ups an 8x8' drum riser for me to perform on.

So, at the end of the night, after most everyone left, I stuck around and helped him tear down the stage and move it to the down stairs area (the show was on the second floor of the facility) and it was some real hard work as it was still in the low 90s and about 64% humidity. None of the other band members did this as they were gone soon after they received their pay.

I'm not looking for anything; rather it was simple realization that without that guy doing all of that, there would be no stage to perform on.

yeah...I have always been guilty of being First In and Last Out at any gig or job that I have had. It is my dads influence on me for sure. Leave things better than you found them.

Once in a great while, someone I work with will pull a diva trip, but by and large they are respectful and responsible without requiring a sign.

About 20 years ago I worked at a music festival as an audio engineer assistant and got to see several local and national level acts up close.

As a general rule, the people with the biggest 'rock star' attitude were up-and-coming artists who (I realize in retrospect) were deeply insecure.

The kindest artist we had over the years was a national level jazz legend.

(The other memory seared in my brain is the long rider for aging rock bands (big in the 70's and 80's), 85% of which was left untouched at the end of the night...)
