View attachment 156015I believe this is what it is on the catalog, not to be argumentitive though. I hope this is the year and model of my drum, I didn't buy it new I daresay so I wouldn't know as much as you would I-P.
That's a known misprint in that catalogue. Second line in that catalogues description says "with parallel action strainer ".
A. does NOT have the parallel strainer. Only the Jupiter has (see B in the catalogue above).

A. which is the Custom (Deluxe) has the Gladstone or (formally, the Deluxe) strainer.

Hope that clears it up.

They're great snare aren't they. Enjoy :)

Edit: Note the vent hole location in that catalogue in relation to your snare drums vent hole. Helps with nailing down year/s of manufacture.

Hello, I am a young drummer in Canada who hasn't been doing many gigs besides church and youth, etc. I have played some free live things for the town, which is fun. Let's go to the interesting stuff lol; my drum kit is a Tama star classic birch performer from 2004, with a pearl 1978 all-original COB Jupiter(Copeland snare-die cast hoop on top); I have a second kit(1982 Tama Royalstars, four pieces with taye floor tom) which I'm currently trying to sell which is a 1982 Royalstar kit. This Summer, I plan to do a one-off fun gig with a fantastic singer too. Oh yeah, my favourite drummers are Stewart Copeland, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, and Greyson Nekruitman, Keith moon, Simon Phillips Hopefully, this made sense, or this was interesting lol

welcome to the forum!! We share many of the same influences!!!

hopefully you will be able to get those kits out in fromt of people more often in the coming years...how old are you? I played my first live show when I was 13...back in 1982!

I was wondering about the lack of a parallel action strainer; I haven't seen one of those in person, so I figured it was a me problem.
Thank you! I am quite enjoying it, I've been having fun dialing it in. Yeah, that makes more sense, thanks

I have wanted to bring my drums around, but these are basically my money in drum form, so maybe in a couple of years, I'll risk playing them outside, lol. Welllll, lets say fairly young, my first outside gig(non paying just with dad Bass and brother Guitar) was at the same age as you; to give a somewhat reasonable age lets say not driving yet.

cool...so you have a lot of time!!! Do you do band at school? That is one thing I was glad I did. It made me a better counter,. and gave me a lot of musical instinct....

and I have been a band director/percussion instructor now for 30 years!!

I don't do the band at the school yet, but next year, probably, I've noticed a drastic improvement in my playing when playing with people of all skill levels, too, so I would want to play in the school band, though.
That's really cool!

good...it will give you so much music "wisdom" that you won't get by just playing drum set in your room, or just with rock bands. I remember even after my freshman year summer band camp, my hands, and timing improved 1000% because I was playing - with a metronome - for 4-6 hours a day.

I also met the guys, in marching band, who I formed my rock band that eventually almost got signed by Metal Blade records back in the day. We are all still friends, and have been in many different band situations along the way...

i had my first paying gigs ever playing with my band directors family polka band!! As a freshman in high school, in 1983, I was making $100 a weekend to play polka gigs...it was really weird, but also fun to have that money!

so anywho, definitely do it!!

Greetings from the bottom of the world.... Auckland, NZ.

Been playing for over thirty years (mostly CCM and worship) and then sold my kit 8 years ago.... regretted it ever since.

So just gone and purchased a Yamaha Gen 1 Rydeen kit so about to replace the heads (a mixture of beaten up G1's and Pinstripes) with a set of Emperor Vintage and a P77 for the snare to try and get it to sound somewhat decent. The Rydeen/Paiste 101 cymbals are on the way out the door and going to be replaced with Sabian AAX Praise and Worship Pack. And lastly a second hand 13" tom from Ebay England.

watching a marching band was one of my big motivators to take drumming seriously! Here I am, 46 years later, and have been a school (marching) band director for 25 of those 40 years! My friends dad was the director for The Ohio State Marching Band in the 70's, and we would go to rehearsal with him alot.

hope to see you around the forums!!

Hello all!
The name, "FunkCat" refers to the labels put on musicians in NYC back in the 60s-70s, i.e.,"he's a jazz Cat.." or "I played with these funk cats last night.."
Anyway...
I (Chris) grew up in Queens, NY around some great drummers (studied with Donny Donable while he played with my uncle Michael Bailey in the funk group, "Colors" and he studied karate under my father, along with Bernard Wright, guitarist Hank Grate and bassist Tarik Shah). I joined the Marines and left from NY to Az where I picked up electric and upright bass (they guys were short a bassist and I wanted to play!). After I left the Corps I worked a job, keeping up my hands, then picked playing back up when I retired. I went back to drums in 2019. I still play Ludwig drums (there really only were a few companies when I started playing and there were no such thing as drum mics!) and Zildjian cymbals, although I do have a jazzy little drum kit that I love! I got my first pair of Pro Mark sticks from donny Donable when I was 14. I'll be 60 soon and I still use them, although not the same ones.
