I started on guitar, mainly watching my brother play Metallica, hair metal, and some 80s rock music for years. I was about 4 years old at the time. That lasted throughout elementary school (although I of course didn't get much better at messing around on the electric at such a young age).
It...
This one looks nice.
I had a similar one though when I was playing lots of jazz gigs and my Sabian ride definitely got beat up. Just depends on how much you're traveling with it, throwing it around in a car, etc.
Will have to get a hard case soon as well
I feel like a lot of people just pick up https://www.avid.com/sibelius or something similar and just learn everything they can on YouTube. Definitely could do it with some dedication
Yeah I haven't seen any "good" electronic cymbals either for under $2-3k. Might go the TD-17kvx used route. I'll be moving to around the LA area, so I'm sure Facebook Marketplace will be a goldmine for some good deals
Yeah the budget is the main problem here haha. I'm just hesitant to spend too much since I may have to sell the kit anyway since I'm moving cross country again after 6 months or so. Will check out Alesis - I've played a few good ones at Guitar Center before.
I'm about to move into a new apartment, with a small second bedroom for a studio/office. I'm trying to find a solid electronic kit with a good feel. Of course long term, I'd love to pull the trigger on the Roland VAD504. But for now I'd like to keep it under $1k or so just as a practice setup...
That was my bad - had two taps open in the forum and put in wrong info. @Drumdame I rarely use woodblocks in my setup, but I remember my old drum teacher using this...
Yeah that was what I played back in college. The real dream kit now once I move into a house is this though: DW Mapa Burl. Anyone owned one of these before?
Hey @WhereIsTheOne?! @heartbeat
How's it going? I understand it's weird to think how I can be working a job and posting 3-4 articles a day. Like @roncadillac said - there's no money in drum nerdery... so of course I have a regular job in marketing as well.
In terms of content tools... yeah, I...
It’s that pull between freedom and stability. I like the job because there's less fear or pressure. But yeah if I could make music all day that would make life a lot better. The chaos of trying to be a "full time" musician is kinda rough too.
Hey Kevin, you can run the audio outs from your drum module into an audio interface and record straight into something like Reaper or Cakewalk. Super clean, no conversion needed.
Totally get you. That feeling hits hard, thinking you're dialed in, then watching footage and spotting all the flaws. But honestly? That just means your ears are improving.
Don't be too hard on yourself
Both are sweet options. The Ludwigs with those maple/poplar shells, and they’ve got that fat, warm, vintage tone. Tough call, but if the Ludwigs are mint, that’s a hard deal to pass up.
