Turquoise sparkle wrap is lookin' good.We were ready to be sweaty! A very humid, warm evening at the campground rec hall. First outing with the classic maples. Love 'em!

This was a lovely gig last night, playing a boat club in York, not far from what used to be the Terry’s chocolate factory (I highly recommend Terry’s chocolate oranges!) which you can see just over the trees.
It means a lot as a musician when people and the venue appreciate you - providing you with a dressing room, food, free drinks. Already looking forward to going back next year.

@PTB
I sold my steel piccolo snare because that cheap 1mm steel shell did not generate a good sound to my ears. The other day, this Ludwig Carl Palmer piccolo snare appeared on my feed.
May I ask what are your thoughts on this Ludwig Carl Palmer Piccolo snare?
How do you like the sound?
Did you encounter any issues with the throw off not disengaging the snare wires or the build quality?
I cannot be 100% sure, but is this snare made in Taiwan and is it a Brass welded shell? I ask because although this is a signature snare, this is one of the lowest priced Ludwig snare drums. Thanks.
Happy to send a vid direct to you if you’d like to hear it in action.Striker, I love it.
I’ll start by saying I have zero loyalty for drum brands, one of the best sounding kit I’ve ever owned was a cheap entry level Mapex Tornado that had been sat in a kids garage for a few years slowly rusting away. One of the worst I’ve had was a Gretsch Catalina, just never seemed to sound right.
So I don’t go for brands or have any loyalty.
BUT….this is the first drum I’ve ever owned where I’ve decided I love it so much I’m saving up for a second one for safekeeping.
The sound is incredible. A bit of ring to it, so I have a snare weight attached to it. I replaced the heads which I always do, never really a fan of stock heads. Zero issues with the strainer *however* I believe there’s been two models of this snare, the first model had a few issues with the strainer and then they revised it for the second model. I have the second model.
Not sure about brass welded/Taiwan. The only defect I have is it has little screws to in theory keep the lugs locked firmly in place, however if you screw them tight it detunes the lug anyway. I don’t really use them, just keep the screws finger tight and every 5 or so gigs they unscrew.
Happy to send a vid direct to you if you’d like to hear it in action.
The warmth of light as the sun starts to set. Outdoor gig at the local town common.
(BTW, I know, I know - my pile of cables next to the drums looks like a rat's nest)
Did one of those sessions today that checked off two of the three boxes necessary to make it worthwhile.
1. Play with friends/great musicians -
2. Play interesting/enjoyable music -
3. Good money -
Oh well, can’t win ‘em all. This was an old school country session for an up and coming Bakersfield kid. Got to pull all my Don Williams deep dive “chops” out. The other cats on the session are good friends and former bandmates so it all went down quick and easy.
Brushes for every song. One waltz, a couple of train beats and another uptempo number. The kid is green - it was his first recording experience, so it was fun watching him light up as we brought his songs to life.
