Hearing protection - best gear, recommendations, etc.

Another big recommendation for Earasers.
I tried several different types of plugs (short of custom molded) and these BY FAR are the best I have used. Great clarity and they take the 'edge off' beautifully. Used them at rehearsals and live gigs...fantastic ear protection that you forget are in your ears!

These. Love 'em.

I agree, I always use the Alpine plugs.
Although I found the older version - with the silver tube container which you had to shake a dozen times to get them out - seemed to have a slightly better fit for my ears.

I tried different sizes Earasers and didn't like them.
Somehow none fitted well and the little stick should make it easier to plug them in and out but it didn't.

What would be the best plan of action if I wanted ear/hearing protection, but also want to hear the music I am playing to?

I am not in a band and do t play live, but do practice to recorded tracks.

Hello! This is my first post here. I've been drumming for some years and have tried a few diffrent types of hearing protection (a pair of plugs I don't remember the brand of, shooting headphones, and a pair of JBL earbuds) which have all been effective but completely eliminate everything but kick, snare, and cymbals. Hence as to why I don't often use hearing protection. If anyone knows of a good hearing protection that won't do this any help is appreciated!

Earacers cut a few dB but otherwise sound pretty natural. They're only taking the edge off of loud sounds, so I'm not sure they're truly protecting your hearing in situations where the sounds are very loud and sustained.

Before getting IEM's I used them in band practices and I still wear them if I'm in the audience at a particularly loud concert.

Ok, thank you very much!

This was discussed a while ago. Hopefully this thread will provide some ideas.

Two major things to consider when it comes to ear protection.
First, is it easy to wear and is it comfortable?
Second, how good does it control the sound? Does it block all frequencies and what you hear is so muffled that you feel the sound comes from the bottom of the well, or can you still hear the sound clearly but at a much lower volume.

Hi, I had a hearing test and I'm keen to increase protection. My high-end frequency damage was most likely done when I was younger and didn't wear plugs. I'm wearing Earpeace plugs now which are really good, but since I've read that the effectiveness of plugs can vary due to fit, so I've been looking at Vic Firth's over-ear headphones. Protecting my hearing is top priority but I'd like to hear some detail too.
Any advice and recommendations appreciated :)

Hi, I own the Vic Firth 'phones. I like them a lot. The main complaint is that they are uncomfortable and squeeze the head like a vise. I have gotten used to this, though.
