While toying with my new Istanbul Agop hats, I was adjusting the tilt. When I tilt the hats away from me, my sticks don't hit the bottom cymbal (which saves a lot of sticks) and it sounds slightly darker than when I tilt the hats towards me. When their tilted toward me, my stick also hits the bottom cymbal and the sound is a bit brighter ('cuz it's a heavier cymbal).

What is your preference?

My first drum teacher taught me to tilt my hats away from me. Tilted towards me has the bottom cymbal lip exposed which can chew up sticks really quickly. Tilted away I’m hitting just the upper cymbal cleanly and my sticks thank me profusely.

Are you saying they are mismatched diameters?

or are you 'screwing the 'tilt' a bit too much either way. To compensate for something. If you want to talk about it's ok'. I could have warned you..about certain how do I say 'traps" and how to work around and how they come around. With time..

you are having to adapt to their sound (God forgive me if they have a sound ) when...wait for it

Level.
This is your 1st way "out" and in the event -may take a month or more ; this doesn't work "adapting to level" we can proceed with Step 2

I've been there before decades before. Istanbul and Paiste I still can't believe you're doing that but.. I can't be everywhere 😁

"one has dirt floors and the other has sonographs in their testing area"..

I don’t understand. Are you suggesting that titling hi hats is not desirable? That it somehow reflects shortcomings in technique? I very well could be misunderstanding what you are saying. Wouldn’t be the first time. Just looking for some clarity.

it's barely necessary when the cymbals are 1) beautifully matched and 2) learnt to play/ stepon "correctly" ( what I meant by Time-Taken "learning them....

thirdly) some brands are duds in the foot step 'sound category; but not want to go there, it's been decades I was an Istanbul supporter ; I ain't assuming the cymbals but rather "learning" them.. Takes time

read my final edit Groove @MisterGroove

I love these cymbals would gladly own them

I'd even trade my 9 Bosphorus for 1 set
And would welcome them in to my Avedis/ K Zildjian parlor..

Not gonna happen.

aw... you had me up to there. One turn.on the adjuster; 1 1/2 turn should be plenty
but..if not
I hear ya. I open my hats a bit more for sizzle/slosh and more volume. I've played Jungle Boogie too much. I'm not as sophisticated as you.

Edit: as for my photo, I started of flat and went full tilt (hats touching when top hat is fully elevated), then retreated to a point where it felt good, sounded good with my Bluto-like foot control.

I tilt the bottom hat away from me about an inch. To my ear, leaving them flat traps the air and "chokes the shoop."

I misunderstood the question...thought you were talking about this kind of tilt feature...

and I thought it was the old drummers joke

how can you tell if the stage is level.
answer: Ice Cubes in your Daiquiri are touching the side of the glass.

Daiquiri! Rum?! Level stage?! All I want is to know if there's magic in the tilter.
